Casts don’t get much more stacked than the one for Triple 9, the gritty heist drama that hit theaters earlier this year. It’s an embarrassment of riches—Woody Harrelson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Winslet, Casey Affleck, Anthony Mackie, Norman Reedus, Gal Gadot, Aaron Paul, and Michael K. Williams. Just like one of the most frequently used (and consistently entertaining) heist movie tropes, you could say John Hillcoat “assembled the perfect team” to pull off the job.
Of course, Triple 9 is just the latest in a long line of heist movies that get great mileage out of pulling together disparate personalities with different skills to make “one final score.” In celebration of the film’s home-video release today, The A.V. Bullets fly on the Atlanta freeway as armed thieves make their getaway following a bank robbery in broad daylight. Unhappy with the results, ruthless gangster Irina Vlaslov orders the men to pull off another job. One member of the team is Marcus Belmont (Anthony Mackie), a crooked cop who gets saddled with Chris Allen (Casey Affleck), his new but incorruptible police partner.
