Winona Ryder thinks she may have married Keanu Reeves on the set of Bram Stoker's Dracula
Here’s some heartwarming news for all the goth kids who still have room in their black hearts for the bright light of love: Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder apparently got married in 1992 while filming Bram Stoker’s Dracula. That’s what Ryder says, at least, with her telling Entertainment Weekly that the scene where her character and Reeves’ character got married may have involved an actual Romanian priest. She’s not sure, but since the priest that director Francis Ford Coppola hired “did the whole thing” and they both said “I do,” they’re pretty much “married in real life.”
This was apparently news to Reeves, who is reuniting with his estranged wife for the upcoming romantic comedy Destination Wedding, but EW says he took it “in stride” and joked, “it’s lovely to see you again” to Ryder. She noted that they shot the scene on Valentine’s Day, making it even more romantic, and Reeves eventually conceded and said, “oh my gosh, we’re married” in what we can only assume was a classic Keanu Reeves deadpan. We don’t know if they filled out any of the necessary paperwork for this wedding to be legitimate in the United States, but that just seems like a formality at this point.
Here’s a home video of Reeves and Ryder’s wedding, so feel free to grab some screencaps for the photo album.
