Wire celebrates its 40th anniversary with a new album, Silver/Lead

It’s rare that a band entering its 40th year is still making engaging music, but that’s been the case for Wire, the English post-punk band that released its debut album Pink Flag all the way back in 1977. Since then the band has had its share of ups and downs, going on prolonged breaks for chunks of the ’80s and ’90s, but returning just as energized.

On March 31, the band will release Silver/Lead, its 15th studio album. And, as its first single “Short Elevated Period” proves, the band’s still got all the jittery energy it did four decades ago.
