With its torso quota now full, David Yates' Tarzan casts Christoph Waltz as the torso's villain

Despite the recent box-office failure of John Carter, the last high-profile adaptation of an Edgar Rice Burroughs novel, Warner Bros. continues to plod along with its long-in-development new version of Tarzan. (A version that is, as is now common, just one of several.) David Yates has been slated to direct since last year, and Alexander Skarsgard was selected from a lineup of shirtless torsos shortly thereafter. And now the film has found its main villain in Christoph Waltz, who, according to Variety’s sources, will play a “military figure that crosses paths” with Skarsgard’s King Of The Jungle—which doesn’t exactly separate this new film from what Disney did with the character. Tarzan still hasn’t been officially greenlit yet, even after drafts of the script from John August and several others—presumably since the studio is still thinking about John Carter.
