Wolf Of Wall Street and System Of A Down’s “Chop Suey” work beautifully together
There are times when the Internet seems like nothing so much as a giant chemistry lab in which the aspiring John Frinks and Julius Kelps of the world take seemingly incompatible or incongruous elements of popular culture and combine them in the hopes of creating some new, third thing which will benefit society. The success rate for such experimentation must be low. One shudders to think of the enormous waste disposal unit which houses the twisted and grotesque failures. But the occasional successes make it all worthwhile. Case in point: Marca Blanca’s “The Wolf Of System Of A Down.” Clumsily titled though it may be, this 39-second YouTube video that combines clips from Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf Of Wall Street with “Chop Suey” by System Of ADown is something of a revelation. Leonardo DiCaprio’s performance as penny stock hustler Jordan Belfort, which involves a lot of screaming, drug-taking, chest-thumping, and limb-flailing, is perfectly complemented by the pushy, aggressive, hyper-masculine sound of the Armenian-American rock combo. The mashup video, then, effectively turns Stratton Oakmont’s Wall Street office space into one big mosh pit.
