Woo-hoo! Now there’s a supercut of vocal hooks from ‘90s alt rock hits
As fans of ‘90s rock—Alice In Chains’ Jar Of Flies included—could well tell you, oftentimes a record or hit single is absolutely made by a good well-placed vocal hook. A solid “woo-hoo” or “ooh woo hoo ooh” can be as effective as a wordy chorus or stellar guitar riff—if not even more effective. That’s the case made by CBC Music, who put together a two-and-a-half minute supercut of vocal hooks from ‘90s alt-rock songs. The clip features “whoa-ohs” from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer, The Rentals, The Breeders, The Cardigans, Pavement, and a whole bunch of other moaning and groaning acts. It’s not comprehensive by any means, but, if anything, that should just serve as an invitation for more sites and individuals to come up with “ooh ahh” mash-ups and supercuts. Or maybe quizzes, like the ones NPR Music’s been doing every Friday with various drum fills.
