Woody Allen is in full nebbish mode in trailer for Crisis In Six Scenes

In the first look at Woody Allen’s Amazon series, Crisis In Six Scenes, the creator-star is really stretching his thespian muscles. The trailer sets up that the show takes place in the 1960s with some stock footage, and then cuts to a barbershop to introduce us to Sidney Munsinger (Allen), an author prone to denying the realities of his age and kvetching. Oh sorry. Did we imply that Allen’s taking any risks? Our bad. We meant to say he’s giving the exact same performance that’s been his calling card for somewhere around 50 years. At this point, it almost sounds like he’s doing a Woody Allen impression as he gripes about his novella and wanting his hair to look like James Dean’s.

Amazon explained in a release that the plot of Crisis revolves around “a middle class suburban family is visited by a guest who turns their household completely upside down.” There’s not a whole lot of that here, just Allen Allen-ing and that ever recognizable font. Elaine May and, of all people, Miley Cyrus also star.

The show starts streaming September 30.
