Woody Harrelson is a Daniel Clowes character in the red-band trailer for Wilson
Wilson, as played by Woody Harrelson, is a lonely-yet-annoyingly convivial, garrulous-yet-recklessly honest man who came close to having a family before everything unraveled. Closer than he even realized. After learning that his estranged wife (Laura Dern) had long ago put a daughter he never knew about up for adoption, he decides to track down the two women most important to his life and bring the family back together once again, or actually for the first time.
Alexander Payne originally optioned the film rights to Daniel Clowes’ graphic novel of the same name, and you can definitely see why. In fact, this trailer makes it look like his influence on Clowes’ screenplay might have remained even after he left the project and Craig Johnson took over directing duties—although Johnson, who presented us with The Skeleton Twins in 2014, is certainly no novice with dark and quirky comedy.
Wilson will be arriving in theaters on March 3.
