World’s most powerful misogynist honors women today
Today is a uniquely powerful International Women’s Day, when the global movement catalyzed in response to Donald Trump’s presidency has moved to make a statement about women’s labor through a massive day-long strike. In response to this, Donald Trump’s Twitter account issued the following gentlemanly hat-tips:
It’s almost as if, by issuing these at 5:12 and 5:13 a.m., they thought they could sell us on the notion that Donald Trump actually wrote these. (Has anyone checked to see whether they came from an iPhone or an Android?) The commander in chief’s actual opinions on women have been well-documented. There was, of course, his advice to grab them by the pussy:
As Mashable notes, this joke was made immediately and aggressively by anybody with a Twitter account. But there are so many more examples to choose from! For example, the other women he assaulted:
Or any celebrity woman who dared to oppose him:
Or his “locker-room talk” attitude toward macho culture:
Or the wife of his onetime political opponent:
Or his own wife:
Or his daughter:
Not to mention his administration’s attempts to make abortions near-impossible to receive in the country. Donald Trump did not issue those tweets, and if he did, it’s even more contemptuous. His contempt for women is as openly apparent as his contempt for the economically dispossessed millions in America, the LGBTQ community, immigrants, and anyone outside of his increasingly shrinking, shriveled coterie of white, male, centi-millionaire insiders. The “vital role” women serve in this country will be logjamming his presidency and voting him out of office.
Happy women’s day.
