Wye Oak announces a guitar-free new record, premieres new track

Wye Oak has announced a release date for its guitar-free new album, Shriek, as well as released the first single. Shriek is due April 29, and “The Tower” is streaming now via NPR’s All Songs Live Stream and on the band’s YouTube channel.

Billed as the group’s most personal album yet, Shriek was born out of the band’s separation. Drummer Andy Stack moved to the West Coast, while guitarist and singer Jenn Wasner remained in Baltimore and started messing around with playing bass. Produced by the band and Nicolas Vernhes at the Rare Book Room studio in Brooklyn, Shriek boasts intensely layered sounds, as well as a whole new direction for the group.

Wye Oak will be touring all spring, and $2 from each ticket sold will go to a local charity of the band’s choice. All confirmed dates are listed below, and Shriek is available now for pre-order on both iTunes and through Merge Records.
