Wye Oak just released a surprise new record, Tween

Wye Oak has taken a page from Radiohead, Beyoncé, and everyone else in music these days and dropped a surprise record. Called Tween, the record isn’t exactly the next step in the band’s musical evolution, with all of the tracks written and subsequently scrapped between the group’s 2011 record, Civilian, and its 2014 LP, Shriek. That languishing doesn’t make them junk, though, and all the tracks have been repurposed since their shelving. As the group’s Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack note in a press release, the songs are “not emblematic of a step forward, but a step sideways in time.”

Tween is available on streaming services like Spotify, and is available for physical pre-order via Merge Records’ website. The group is also on tour this summer and fall, and dates are below.
