X's Exene Cervenka is having an amazing estate sale
When most people have garage or estate sales, they’re trying to dump unwanted junk. But if you’re, say, X’s Exene Cervenka and you want to downsize your possessions by having an estate sale—because the artist/poet/punk rocker is relocating—your offerings are bound to be a cut above the rest. Taking place from February 13-16 in Orange County, the sale is a jaw-dropping display of kitsch and collectability. As Exene herself put it in the listing, “Treasured memories of the past can live on in your hands! Like a small inheritance, but without the squabbling with siblings!”
Offerings include a slew of vintage guitars, a velvet painting of a Doberman, two drawers full of knives, a creepy-looking 1940s reptile bag, an Exene-worn tiara, circa-’77 bondage pants, a framed Allen Ginsberg-autographed poster, and pieces of the singer's original artwork. If bargain-hunting is more your style, Exene is also offering estate sale standards such as Depression glass, vintage books and records, sleek mid-century furniture, racks of clothing, and plenty of funky vintage jewelry. Remote buyers are seemingly out of luck, but local California bargain-hunters can start getting their line numbers at 9 a.m. on February 13.
