Yep, everyone bought Frozen and “Happy” in 2014
iTunes’ year-end statistics have confirmed that, yes, “Let It Go” and “Happy” were as goddamn prevalent in 2014 as everyone thought they were. Apple announced today that its top-selling album of the year was the Frozen soundtrack, followed closely by Taylor Swift’s 1989, despite that record’s relative newness. Coldplay’s Ghost Stories, Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour, and the Guardians Of The Galaxy soundtrack make up the rest of its top five. Frozen was also the service’s best-selling movie of the year.
Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” topped iTunes’ top-selling singles list, with John Legend’s “All Of Me,” Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse,” Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty,” and Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” capping off the top five. George R.R. Martin’s downer of a series Game Of Thrones was the service’s most popular TV show, perhaps explaining why so many people felt the need to find solace in peppy, positive music.
