Yes, Courtney Love wrote the note that was in Kurt Cobain's wallet when he died
The wry, fairly insulting note about Courtney Love that was found in a dead Kurt Cobain’s wallet was, in fact, written by Love. The handwritten note, recently made public alongside various other photos from the scene of Cobain’s 1994 suicide, made fun of the couple’s marriage vows, and included lines like, “Do you Kurt Cobain take Courtney Michelle Love to be your lawful shredded wife even when she’s a bitch with zits and siphoning all yr money for doping and whoring.” Naturally, its tone made Cobain’s ever-skeptical fanbase once again question whether Love had somehow played a role in the Nirvana frontman’s death.
After Cobain biographer Charles R. Cross suggested earlier this week that the note was written by Love herself, Love went ahead and confirmed it to The Guardian. In an interview with the British newspaper, Love said she “obviously” wrote it, and disparaged fans for not understanding sarcasm. She also once again spoke out against the speculation around Cobain’s death from conspiracy theorists, saying, “It endangers me, and it endangers [daughter] Frances.”
