Yes to play three full albums each night of its upcoming tour, just to show it can
Here’s some news that is sure to elicit a positive response: Yes, the seemingly immortal British prog-rock outfit everyone’s dad’s friend keeps trying to get them to listen to, is going on tour. And in a decision that will likely repel all but the most devoted Yes fans (i.e. Yes fans), the band will perform three full albums in their entirety at 19 out of the 23 stops. That’s right: Yes will be performing The Yes Album, Close To The Edge, and Going For The One in succession, 19 times over a six-week period. (The remaining four shows will be at casinos where, due to time restrictions, the band will ironically forgo Going For The One.) For those keeping track, using album-length estimates and discounting any jammage that may add to the length of these shows, that clocks in at almost two-and-a-half hours per concert, and over 53 hours of awesome, mystical, soaring, synth-y affirmations in total.
This marks the first time the band has performed a full album live since 1973, which suggests that Chris Squire just devised this David-Blaine-ian exercise in musical endurance to give the finger to everyone who still doesn’t like his group. Tour dates are below.
