Yo La Tengo to embark on world tour behind new album, Fade

Yo La Tengo put together a remarkable run of classic late-period albums in the ’00s, beginning with 2000’s And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out and culminating with 2006’s I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass and 2009’s Popular Songs. The group is looking to add to that streak with the upcoming Fade, due out Jan. 15 on longtime label Matador. The record is said to be reminiscent of both Inside-Out and 1997’s I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One, grappling with the sorts of issues you would expect Yo La Tengo to grapple with: aging, tragedy, heartbreak. Following its annual Hanukkah shows at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, New Jersey, the band will embark on a brief world tour to share the pain and/or beat your ass.
