Yo! MTV Raps returns for "Classic Cuts" TV special
For all the bad TV programming that MTV has foisted on the world, the cable channel is redeemed by shows like Yo! MTV Raps, which played a pivotal role in hip-hop culture (and pop culture in general) during the '80s and '90s. Yo! has long since gone the way of most music shows on MTV, but it will get a temporary comeback Dec. 4 when MTV2 airs Yo! MTV Raps Classic Cuts. Original hosts Fab 5 Freddy, Ed Lover, and Doctor Dre will be on hand to look at three mainstays of hip-hop's golden era: A Tribe Called Quest's "Scenario," Geto Boys' "My Mind's Playing Tricks On Me," and Ice Cube's "It Was A Good Day." The special will include a galaxy of guest stars, including Q-Tip, Scarface, Ice Cube, Wiz Khalifa, DJ Khaled, ?uestlove, Busta Rhymes, Mac Miller, Machine Gun Kelly, Young Jeezy, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Phife, Fat Joe, Common, Mike Epps, Ice T, Meek Mill, Tyga, and Naughty By Nature. Yo! MTV Raps Classic Cuts will air at 11 p.m. EST after the channel's first-ever Sucker-Free Awards.
