Thanks to Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, stories about primates and plagues that wipe out humanity have never been hotter. It’s the perfect time, then, for SyFy to turn Terry Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys into a TV show for some reason.
The series will star Aaron Stanford—Pyro from the X-Men movies—in the Bruce Willis role as a criminal from the future sent back in time to prevent a plague from killing off almost everyone on the planet. Suits’ Amanda Schull will play the woman whom he tries to convince that he isn’t a crazy person, in a couple of twists on the character Madeleine Stowe played in the original. Based on this trailer, the series appears to drop all but the barest bones of the film’s plot, but that sort of thing is to be expected when someone is adapting a reasonably popular movie into a TV series.
12 Monkeys will premiere on SyFy in January 2015.
