You can catch a Lyft in a DeLorean for Back To The Future Day
It’s October 21, 2015, a date that’s been part of the pop-culture consciousness for almost 30 years. It is, after all, the day on which Marty McFly and Doc Brown made their trip to the not-too-distant future to prevent the McFlys from falling further into ruin. But so far, the reality of this day hasn’t quited measure up to the fictionalized account: Sure, we’ve got Pepsi Perfect and inside-out pants pockets, but what of our hoverboards and power-lacing shoes? And don’t even get us started on the lack of time machines, or the Cubs’ World Series chances. But at least you can hitch a ride in a DeLorean courtesy of Lyft today.
CNBC reports that the ride-share service is partnering with Verizon to offer free rides in a DeLorean for Lyft users in New York City for Back To The Future Day. (That also happens to be where those Stormtrooper cars were giving Star Wars fans rides for Force Friday last month, but who wants to ride the subway?) Lyft users can select McFly mode in the app for a chance at a free ride in the vintage car between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET. There’s no word on just how many DeLoreans are on the road—yes, roads are still needed in the here and now; thank you, 2015—but Lyft reportedly shipped the cars in from all over the country.
Other relevant festivities kicking off today include a five-day convention and the release of a new documentary—oh, and an A.V. Club Pepsi Perfect Taste Test.
