You can download De La Soul's entire catalog right now for free
In honor of the 25th anniversary of 3 Feet High And Rising, De La Soul has made its entire catalog available for free via its website, until tomorrow at 12 p.m. ET. Interested parties will have to subscribe to De La’s newsletter to get the material, though that’s obviously a small price to pay.
The group’s catalog has previously been unavailable through digital outlets like iTunes, because its albums, including 3 Feet High, use unlicensed samples. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Posdnuous claims that the personnel changes at its record labels and dubious early contracts have contributed to the long, 25-year delay in clearing them.
Today's download free-for-all is just the beginning of upcoming De La goodness: The group is set to release new songs through its site this spring, followed by You’re Welcome, its first full album since 2004’s The Grind Date, sometime before summer. And in March it's poised to release Premium Soul On The Rocks, an EP it made with DJ Premiere and Pete Rock.
