You’re The Worst creator developing a “dirty, female-driven” comedy for FX

You’re The Worst was renewed for a third season last week, continuing a trend of FX Networks nurturing creatively celebrated shows that also happen to get poor ratings. Simultaneously, the network signed showrunner Stephen Falk to an overall deal to write, develop, and produce additional FX Networks projects. Now Deadline reports on the first of those projects, a half-hour comedy from Falk and Alison Bennett, an Upright Citizens Brigade alumna who has written on You’re The Worst as well as Hey Girl and The Awesomes.

The show doesn’t have a name yet, but will apparently be “a dirty, female-driven take on the ‘you can’t go home again’ story” that follows an “unrelentingly dissatisfied TV writer” as she returns home to rural Pennsylvania and tries, unsuccessfully, to live a simpler life. Bennett herself is from a town in central Pennsylvania, where, in her own words, “federal prison inmates [stage] a haunted house for the public every year.” Given that You’re The Worst took its main characters to a legitimately terrifying haunted house in season two and boasts simultaneously complex and hilarious female leads, this new comedy appears to be in capable hands. If nothing else, it’ll be interesting to see how rural America does Sunday Funday.
