Ever since he posted a mysterious Instagram, Kendrick Lamar has been methodically building anticipation for his new album. Now there’s something of an official release date. The collection of new music, which will feature the already released single “Humble,” is due out on April 14, if we’re to believe iTunes, where it is available for pre-order.
Dig a little deeper on the platform, as Pitchfork did, and you’ll also find some clues as to who Lamar’s collaborators are on this project. Apparently, U2 will be involved in some way or another as its members are listed as composers. Pitchfork notes that this could just mean that Lamar sampled the band—or you can let your mind run wild. Also among those credited are BADBADNOTGOOD, Mike WiLL-Made It, DJ Dahi, as well as one “J. Blake.” The publication speculates that this may be a reference to James Blake.
Previously, Lamar himself had said “y’all got ’til April 7 to get y’all shit together.” Clearly, no album arrived today, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for anything else.
