Look, we all know that when Susan Boyle stepped on the Britain's Got Talent stage and adequately sang an old showtune, gravity was replaced by possibility, hope rained down from the heavens, and people everywhere started to believe in the awesome power of Les Miz again. It was the greatest thing to ever happen in the history of the World (Simon Cowell Edition). Before Susan Boyle, we were all cold cynical wretches who didn't believe in the power of the human spirit—but after Susan Boyle, we were transformed into cold cynical wretches who found ourselves having to explain that, look she seems like a nice woman and everything, but we just don't find clips of Britain's Got Talent that stirring, sorry. In short: it was a huge shift.
But now that America has had its first exhilarating hit of inspiration in the form of dowdy old ladies giving surprisingly okay talent show performances, they are addicted to that rush of possibility and jonesing for another. At least, that's what America's Got Talent is banking on with their new series of promos.
Everyone (between the ages of 0-10 or the ages of 60-100) who does literally anything, no matter how unimpressive or unskilled, is an inspiration!
America, are you not inspired?
