You wouldn’t like Thom Yorke when he’s angry, warns new track

Since Radiohead influenced the soundtrack for Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice, you might assume that Thom Yorke’s new solo track “Youwouldn’tlikemewhenI’mangry” belongs to an upcoming Incredible Hulk movie that Marvel somehow forgot to mention. (Hulk would leap through the air and bat away fighter jets as Yorke coos, “I’m a reasonable beast/get off my case/get off my case…”) Unfortunately, that’s not what’s happening. Instead, Yorke is offering the song as a bonus track for his album Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, which is releasing on Bandcamp. Yorke originally released the album via BitTorrent Bundle, and more than a few people listened to it that way.

The best way to describe “Youwouldn’tlikemewhenI’mangry” is to say that it sounds like a Thom Yorke song. In fact, if you had to dream up a new Thom Yorke song in your head, it would be this exactly:

See? You’re a musical genius. There’s a chilly serenity over the electronic beats, and the calm veneer serves as counterprogramming to the angst-ridden lyrics. But the way the various elements congeal is oddly irresistible and well worth a listen, just like the rest of Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes. No, it’s not a new Radiohead album, but it’ll get you through the winter.
