Young pope Kendrick Lamar stays “Humble” in his new video

One week after the release of non-album single “The Heart Part 4,” Kendrick Lamar has returned with ”Humble,” a new song and accompanying music video of the same name. Directed by Missy Elliot favorite Dave Meyers (who directed her “Work It” and “Lose Control” videos, alongside many others) in collaboration with collective The Little Homies (a.k.a. Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free), the video combines politically charged imagery reminiscent of Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly Grammys performance with irreverent takes on hip-hop video swagger (Lamar passing the Grey Poupon is an especially cheeky touch).

At the end of “The Heart Part 4,” Kendrick advises fans, “y’all got ’til April 7 to get y’all shit together.” So we’ll all just have to stay “Humble” until then.
