Your Uber driver movie will arrive eventually

In a film industry brimming with sequels to spinoffs of franchises of adaptations of comic-book series, it’s kind of heartwarming to see an original non-commissioned screenplay get picked up every once in a while. That’s why it’s nice to hear that Fox just purchased the spec screenplay Stuber for something in the mid-six figures, according to Deadline. Tripper Clancy‘s action-comedy follows an Uber driver named Stu over the course of one extremely trying evening, which sounds kind of like a “Taxi Driver meets After Hours” deal. Or maybe it’s more like Drive meets Adventures In Babysitting—at this point, we can only speculate.

Clancy is an alum of the Fox writing program with zero currently produced features, but plenty of projects in the pipeline. Henry The Second, his coming-of-age comedy, is supposedly going into production this summer with Anna Kendrick and Craig Robinson. He’s also penning Hacker Camp for Hasbro, Stranded for Sony, and The Ambassadors for Fox. Seems like a guy who does not care for free time.

Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the writer-director team behind the 2015 Vacation reboot, helped Clancy develop the screenplay for Stuber and will serve as co-producers for the film.
