In a move that has already begun to—ahem—trigger gun nuts across the internet, YouTube has announced that it’s going to begin banning videos that are designed to “sell firearms or certain firearm accessories through direct sales” (including bump stocks, gatling triggers, and high capacity magazines) and videos about how to install accessories like that. YouTube will also no longer allow videos about how to manufacture guns, ammunition, and the aforementioned accessories, which seems like something that it should’ve banned a long time ago.
The new policies are set to be implemented in April, but Bloomberg says that some gun-obsessed YouTube users believe their videos are already being shut down. At least one claims that their page was suspended this week, and another says they’re going to take their content to PornHub (which seems a little on-the-nose, considering how much these people love their murder toys). The National Shooting Sports Foundation, a pro-gun lobbying group that is based just three miles from Sandy Hook Elementary because everything involving these gun people is fucking absurd, released a statement saying that this rule “can legitimately be viewed as the stifling of commercial free speech.”
It can’t, though, because YouTube isn’t the government and it can ban whatever it wants to ban, but hopefully all of these wannabe Rambos can still find a healthy outlet for all of the deep insecurities that they’ve tried cover up with the noise of gunfire.
