Zach Galifianakis is a tender-hearted Bigfoot in first trailer for Laika's Missing Link

Bigfoot was all the rage a few years back, with Exists and Willow Creek both mining horror from the monster’s considerable mythos. Now, Laika, the stop-motion studio behind innovative flicks like Coraline and Kubo And The Two Strings, is bringing a comic edge to Sasquatch. Missing Link comes from ParaNorman director Chris Butler, who told Nerdist that he was aiming for Raiders Of The Lost Ark by way of Ray Harryhausen.

“I think the supernatural world is filled with so many cool stories that you can tell,” he said. “As a lonely little kid who loved to draw and write, that was a world I loved to escape into. ParaNorman was one side of that, but there’s also the kind of creature side, the Harryhausen-esque mythical creature side and so I very much wanted to do something with that.”

Hugh Jackman, Zach Galifianakis, and Zoe Saldana lend their voices to the project, which follows an adventurer, Lionel (Jackman), who joins “Mr. Link” (Galifianakis) in a search for the beast’s long-lost family in the Pacific Northwest.

One question: How does Rob Lowe fit into all of this?

Missing Link stomps into theaters on April 12, 2019.
