Zach Galifianakis’ Masterminds is back, now with more Ghostbusters stars

The story behind Jared Hess’ latest feature, Masterminds, is now nearly as convoluted as the true-crime caper it hopes to goofily document: torpedoed by the bankruptcy of Relativity Media last year, the already-completed movie has since become a legal football in the negotiations and scrabbles between Relativity and its partners at the streaming giant Netflix.

But the latest feature from the Napoleon Dynamite director—starring Zach Galifianakis as a soft-voiced, hapless security guard convinced to rob his workplace by a villainous Owen Wilson—finally has a release date, September 30, and a new trailer to accompany it.

Honestly, it looks like a year on the shelf hasn’t done much to change the movie’s dedication to comic criminal stupidity: The biggest difference between Masterminds in 2015 and Masterminds in 2016 is that Ghostbusters happened in the meantime, meaning that the promo materials are now highlighting the presence of stars Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon in the film. (Jones plays the special agent tracking Galifianakis’ gun-toting doofus, while McKinnon plays the woman he jilts in favor of a seductive turn by her spectre-bustin’ co-star Kristen Wiig.)
