Zach Galifianakis might play The Happy Medium in A Wrinkle In Time

Ava DuVernay continues to line up big-name adult ringers to complement the relatively unknown teen cast of her upcoming film adaptation of A Wrinkle In Time. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Selma director is in talks to add Zach Galifianakis to the ranks of the 2018 Disney film, whose cast already includes Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Chris Pine.

The Masterminds star would appear as the Happy Medium, a punnily named minor character from Madeleine L’Engle’s beloved sci-fi novel. The Medium’s home serves as a waypoint on the journey of Meg Murry (Storm Reid) to find her missing father (Pine), in the company of the mysterious witches Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Who (Winfrey, Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling, respectively). In the novel, the Medium serves both as comic relief and to clue Meg and her companions in to the cosmic scale of the evil they oppose. Seán Cullen played the character in the 2003 TV movie version of L’Engle’s book.

Galifianakis’ most recent film was Keeping Up With The Joneses. He also recently interviewed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for Between Two Ferns.
