Zach Galifianakis plays dumb in the full-length Masterminds trailer
When we first debuted the teaser trailer for director Jared Hess’ upcoming comedy Masterminds, it looked like another potentially amusing, possibly lackluster outing from the man behind Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre, and Gentlemen Broncos. Now, the full-length trailer has been released, and the results are in: It’s still another maybe-funny-maybe-not lowbrow comedy, a.k.a. the director‘s stock in trade. But if he was looking to ensure his film would be funny, he could do much worse than the cast he’s assembled here.
Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, Owen Wilson, and Jason Sudeikis all look to be turning in game performances in this film about a group of inept blue-collar bozos who manage to steal $17 million through sheer chutzpah, only to realize that hiding out with tons of money might actually be harder than stealing the cash in the first place. And while Galifianakis plays a character apparently dumb enough to fire a bullet through his own buttcheeks by accident, if anyone can sell that kind of stupid, it’s him. We’ll find out for sure when the film comes out on August 19.
