Zachary Levi suits up (and drinks up) in the first official image of him from Shazam!

Annoying political figures keep inadvertently promoting Sacha Baron Cohen’s new Showtime series Who Is America? by angrily announcing that they got duped into doing phony interviews, first with Sarah Palin yesterday and today with famous dumb guy Joe Walsh, but sadly not all pop culture promotion is that easy. You typically have to put out a press release or contact reporters, which isn’t as flashy is getting Sarah Palin to admit that she fell for a prank. Today, we’d like to highlight some more “traditional” pop culture news that doesn’t have the benefit of an embarassed political figure talking about it in the press.
- First up is director David Sandberg’s Shazam! movie, which today released the first official image of Zachary Levi chugging down some sodas in costume as the magical DC superhero. You’ll have to go to Entertainment Weekly to see it, but we’ll say this: It looks kind of goofy in a way that works surprisingly well.
- Julianne Moore might join Amy Adams in Joe Wright’s The Woman In The Window, which is reportedly a spooky twist on Rear Window. Moore would be playing the neighbor of Adams’ character and the mother of a “mysterious young boy.” Spooky! [via The Hollywood Reporter]
- It’s not another true crossover like when Jess from New Girl met Jake Peralta, but Melissa Fumero and Stephanie Beatriz from Brooklyn Nine-Nine will be heading to Netflix’s One Day At A Time for some kind of guest appearance in the show’s third season. [via Vulture]
- Remember the secret society of assassins in John Wick? Well, Gary Oldman and Jessica Alba have signed on to another movie that sounds like it has a similar thing. It’s called Killers Anonymous, and it’s about the underground world of people who have killed people. It’s being pitched as a “cult classic,” which is a little weird. [via Variety]
- Avatar: The Last Airbender writer Aaron Ehasz is working on a new animated show for Netflix called The Dragon Prince that’s about two humans who team up with an elf assassin on a quest for peace. Netflix has released a teaser poster, and there will supposedly be more information at Comic-Con next week. [via Deadline]
- Speaking of teaser posters for Netflix shows, the streaming service has also released a poster for the (possibly) Riverdale-adjacent The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina. It’s very artsy and mildly satanic, with a pentagram snuck into Sabrina’s name, and it sets a promising tone for the witchy series. [via Mashable]
- Let’s just keep talking about posters! We also have Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie getting their own posters for Mary Queen Of Scots. One was born to fight, the other was born to power. Those could be the lyrics to a pretty sweet ‘80s song. [via IndieWire]
- It’s been nearly a year since Tom Petty died, which means it’s time for any archives of unreleased material he was sitting on to get packaged into a stylish box and shared with the public. In September, a four-CD set called American Treasure will be released, featuring a whole bunch of unreleased Tom Petty stuff (including live tracks amd alternate takes). [via Variety]
