Zachary Quinto to get into life-hacking in new TV series

As science fiction has shown us over and over again, there’ll come a point when technology as we know it today will get about as advanced as it can and the true innovations will start to come in the form of biotech. That covers everything from cybernetic implants to modifying DNA, and it’ll involve normal humans getting left in the dust like an obsolete iPhone 4 or whatever. Now, as reported by Deadline, Zachary Quinto is set to play a guy who just can’t wait for that future to come.

He’ll be starring in and executive producing an hourlong drama series called Biopunk, based on the book of the same name by Wired magazine’s Marcus Wholsen. Quinto will play the “iconoclastic leader” of the life-hacking movement, which includes “young and hungry guerrilla scientists committed to democratizing DNA the way the internet did for information.” The series is being written by Chase Palmer, who also co-wrote the upcoming remake of Stephen King’s It.

In a statement from Quinto, the Star Trek actor said he’s excited to “delve into a world of science fact” after spending so much time on science fiction.
