Dream Scenario alert: Zendaya and Robert Pattinson eye new Kristoffer Borgli film

It’s only Tuesday, and it’s already been a big week for the creation of some potential new fan-favorite, onscreen duos. Yesterday, news broke that Twisters Glen Powell and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s Jenna Ortega were in final talks to star in a mysterious new J.J. Abrams film that definitely won’t be about time travel. Later that afternoon, we were gifted another unexpected—but quite intriguing—pair. According to Deadline, Zendaya and Robert Pattinson are in early talks to star in the next film from director Kristoffer Borgli, whose Dream Scenario transformed Nicolas Cage and (partially) won over critics last year.

The film, evocatively if a little vaguely titled The Drama, will be produced by A24, along with Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen and Tyler Campellone under their Square Peg banner. Not much is known about the project as of this writing, but Deadline’s sources suggest that it’s about “a romance that takes an unexpected turn before a couple’s big day.” Maybe that unexpected turn will be, dare we say, time travel related? We kid, but it’ll be hard not to append the goofy Abrams tease onto every “details under wraps” announcement from here on out.

Deadline also suggests that Zendaya may have been the real instigator behind this project. A24 was already looking for another collaboration with the director and Square Peg (whose previous efforts have produced huge films like Hereditary, Midsommar, and the upcoming Death Of A Unicorn), but “the project gained serious momentum after Zendaya showed a strong interest in starring.” The Euphoria actor recently lauded Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers for finally allowing her to play an actual adult, so it’s not surprising that she would continue to seek out more mature roles like this in the future. Robert Pattinson—another actor who once played a perpetual high schooler and has since broken away from that mold in a pretty major way—reportedly followed a bit later.
