It’s been a strange decade for the Zombieland “franchise,” as Amazon attempted, unsuccessfully, to transform it into a TV series a few years back, eventually abandoning it as part of its old “let’s make a bunch of pilots and see what sticks” approach to development. (According to those who’ve seen the pilot, it didn’t really stick.) Rumors of a cinematic sequel have been swirling around ever since the first film’s release, though, spurred on by reasonably strong box office performance and an irresistible sense of zombie-slaying fun.
Now, it’s finally happening, complete with suggestions that the second film will widen its scope—including at least one vignette focused on zombie chaos in the White House, apparently—and offer up new “types” of zombies as the apocalypse rages on. The most important thing, though, obviously, will be the return of the film’s original cast, which was such a major part of itssuccess. (Another being a celebrity cameo so good that we’re still loathe to spoil it, nine years later, but which sadly probably won’t be feasible to reprise.)
