Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer to direct a movie based on Cops

Bad boys, bad boys, what ya gonna do, what ya gonna do when they come for you? That’s the question that director Ruben Fleischer is hoping to answer with his next project, a feature film adaptation of the TV show Cops. That comes from Deadline, which says the film won’t be a 90-minute version of the traditional “camera operator rides along with some police officers” format. Instead, it’ll be “an edgy narrative feature with a buddy comedy bent on the order of a Lethal Weapon.” In other words, it doesn’t sound like it’ll be anything like Cops, but we assume it’ll be modeled after the show’s usual structure. Also, apparently Cops is a movie and Lethal Weapon is a TV show, because 2016 is pretty weird.

Fleischer previously directed Zombieland and Gangster Squad, and this Cops movie will be written by Cameron Fay (writer behind Taran Killam’s upcoming film Brother Nature).
