Zooey Deschanel is producing two precious new TV shows
Zooey Deschanel is bringing her producing eyelashes to two new TV shows. The actress and singer has developed two new shows—one for NBC and one for Fox—with her producing partner and Hello Giggles buddy Rivka Sophia Rossi. The first, the comedy Freelancers, was bought by Fox and follows a 30-year-old lawyer who loses his job and goes independent, renting a desk in a shared office space full of eclectic characters. The second, And Lies I Tell My Daughter, was bought by NBC and is based on Julia Obst’s Hello Giggles column “Lies I Tell My Daughter.” The show follows a wacky mom’s parenting travails and triumphs, and is being adapted for TV by Girls’ Deb Schoeneman. Last season, Deschanel and Rossi also got Fox to bite on Must Be Nice, a show written by J.J. Philbin and produced by fellow Hello Giggler Molly McAleer.
