When You’re The Worst returns next month, we’ll see the fallout of Jimmy’s (Chris Geere) cowardice and the extent of Gretchen’s (Aya Cash) wrath, which might be why the fourth season will premiere with a one-hour episode. Tainted love is the theme—though we guess it always has been—and the dramedy is bringing along two new guest stars to sort out the emotional mess. According to an FXX press release, Girls’ Zosia Mamet will appear in the second half of the season, when she’ll play Heidi, “Gretchen’s estranged best friend from childhood.” The old friends will reconnect when Gretchen returns to her hometown to lick her wounds.
Lou Diamond Phillips is also set to guest star, and he’ll play himself. Phillips-as-Phillips will play an old boyfriend of Lindsay (Kether Donohue) and Becca’s (Janet Varney) mom, who once served as the girls’ father figure. The sisters will track him down in episode 10, when they’ll ask why he left, so the emotional gut punches won’t let up in the second half.
