'80s act Jolt Cola returns to the nostalgia circuit (a.k.a. Dollar General)

Did you know that Wang Chung was touring as recently as last year? They performed with A Flock of Seagulls as part of a nostalgic tour of revolving bands called Lost ’80s Live. Granted, these weren’t large arena tours—most of the shows took place at wineries and casino theaters—but those who attended probably had a fun time wistfully reminiscing about the good old days. And Wang Chung likely had a nice payday, so, win-win.

Anyway, Jolt Cola is back! Remember this edgy soda from the ’80s —“All the sugar and twice the caffeine”—that middle-school kids thought was badass because their parents believed it was a gateway to pills? Well, it’s returning to the market after being discontinued in 2009 (possibly because, compared to the double-shot frappu-whatevers and Monster energy drinks of today, Jolt was a soothing cup of Sleepy Time tea). But you can’t find it just anywhere. In retail distribution terms, it’s not playing large arena tours. Instead, you’ll find them sold at Dollar General stores for $1 a can. Look, Jolt Cola executives have kids, too.
