Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick tweets statement following second rape accusation
A second woman—former actress Aurélie Wynn—has now accused former Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick of rape, the second accusation against the actor over the last few days. As reported by Deadline, Wynn wrote a Facebook post today in which she said Westwick sexually assaulted her after a party in July of 2014, in an incident very similar to the one reported by actress Kristina Cohen yesterday.
Wynn said she came forward with her story as a way of showing support for Cohen, writing, “I am so incredibly thankful all of this is finally coming to light and that there is justice in the world. I believe you Kristina Cohen and thank you for speaking up so eloquently and really encompassing what young female actresses have to go through at the hands of men like Ed Westwick. Without you I would not have had the strength to speak up publicly about my ordeal. #metoo”
Cohen’s claims against Westwick are currently being investigated by the LAPD. The actor issued a statement yesterday, denying that he’s ever committed sexual assault.
UPDATE, November 9, 2:30 p.m: Westwick followed up his tweet from Nov. 7 Twitter “statement” with another tweet today, disavowing any wrongdoing and calling them “provably untrue.” He added that he’s working with authorities in the meantime.
The A.V. Club reached out to Crackle, which produces Snatch—on which Westwick co-stars—for further comment. We’ll update as needed.
