With Justice League in theaters, Marvel Cinematic Universe loyalists have been left with nothing but The Punisher to distract themselves with since Thor: Ragnarok came out, especially since the long-awaited Avengers: Infinity War trailer is nowhere in sight. Thankfully, ABC has come through with an extended preview of the new season of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., showing the first 17 minutes of the season five premiere. The clip might be largely incomprehensible to people who haven’t kept up with Agent Coulson and his friends, but it’s clear that the show has come a long way from the days when its only interesting episodes were tangential connections to the movies—like, literally a long way, because everybody’s in space now.
Fans of the cosmic stuff from Marvel’s comics also might be happy to see a wink to S.W.O.R.D. and a possible reference to Nick Fury’s one-time gig as “The Man On The Wall” when he would hang out on the Moon and defend the earth from aliens.
Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s new season will premiere on December 1.
