Amazon quietly kills Spider-Man spin-off show Silk: Spider Society
The series, centered on Spider-Hero Cindy "Silk" Moon, has been dropped from the retail giant's plans
Earlier this week, we reported that Amazon was moving forward with one of the live-action TV projects it’s been developing based off characters in the Spider-Man multiverse, with Nicolas Cage set to star in Noir. That announcement notably avoided talking about the other Spider-Man spin-off show that’s been in development for the last several years, and now Deadline confirms it: Silk isn’t moving forward.
By this point, the live-action series, developed by Walking Dead alum Angela Kang, was probably more infamous for its production troubles than for its spin on the Spidey franchise, which focused on relative newcomer Cindy Moon, who got bitten by the same radioactive spider that gave Peter Parker his powers. (Then she got locked up in a vault for like 15 years, it’s a whole thing.) The series has faced multiple shutdowns and re-toolings since it was green-lit back in 2022, having been impacted by last year’s strikes, and then facing a “developmental overhaul” in February 2024, despite scripts for multiple episodes having reportedly already been written. (Rumors suggested that the show was being retooled to skew more toward male audiences, although nobody ever came out and said that particular quiet part out loud.)
Now, the live-action show—formally titled Silk: Spider Society—has been quietly dumped from Amazon’s plans, with the decision ultimately coming down, Deadline reports, between choosing Noir or Silk. (Both of which, we can’t help but note, sound like signature scents you could pick up at the J.C. Penney perfume counter, but that’s neither here nor there.) Kang, meanwhile, remains in an overall deal with Amazon, while the TV rights to the Silk character will revert to the folks over at Sony Pictures Television, which might try to shop the show around to other buyers.
