American Horror Story: Coven

American Horror Story: Coven

[pm_embed_youtube id=’UUw9l1DPgPBMVfdWC8VEdu4w’ type=’playlist’]The past month has seen a succession of typically cryptic teasers for American Horror Story: Coven, each of them confirming what we already knew and suspected about the horror anthology’s next season: that it will take place in New Orleans, and that it will involve women just sort of floating there, y’know, like women are always doing. But with the release of today’s latest preview, we now know an official premiere date (Oct. 9), and we have an official synopsis telling us who those women are and why they’re floating like that.

Coven concerns the descendants of witches who escaped the Salem trials, young girls who—in order to defend themselves against a growing tide of attacks against their kind—head to a special school in New Orleans, where getting “suspended” is literal, apparently. Among them is returning AHS first season star Taissa Farmiga as Fiona, “harboring a terrifying secret” that goes beyond already being a witch, and Jessica Lange as “the Supreme,” the coven’s “glamour cat” leader who returns after a long absence to protect them at whatever cost, even if it means swanning about and saying witheringly bitchy things.

Kathy Bates also factors in there as Madame LaLurie—a “socialite and serial killer,” just like Paris Hilton—as do returning AHS veterans Frances Conroy, Evan Peters, Denis O’Hare, Lily Rabe, and Alexandra Breckenridge, plus newcomers Emma Roberts, Angela Bassett, Patti LuPone, and Gabourey Sidibe. And, going by past seasons, as does a bunch of other crazy shit the show hasn’t covered yet, such as maybe giant dog-people, or yogurt that can predict the future.
