As predicted, And Just Like That… is done with Sara Ramirez

There were rumors earlier this year, but now it’s official: Sara Ramirez will not be returning to Max’s Sex And The City revival And Just Like That… when it returns for a third season in 2025. Ramirez played divisive new character Che Diaz in the show, a stand-up comedian and podcaster who ends up in a relationship with Cynthia Nixon’s Miranda. Over the course of the second season, Che and Miranda’s relationship gradually fell apart and they eventually broke up, with Variety’s sources saying that the character had “reached a natural conclusion”—as if nobody on TV has ever come up with an excuse to justify keeping someone’s ex around.

And yet rumors persist that this all has something to do with Ramirez’s vocal opposition to Israel’s war in Gaza, partially thanks to a post they made on Instagram after the Emmy Awards about casting directors and agents allegedly “making blacklists of actors and workers who post anything in support of Palestinians in Gaza to ensure they will not work again.” Ramirez also suggested that these agents and casting directors are supporting “some of their own clients who have spoken up against this genocide” while simultaneously “firing and letting others who have smaller platforms go”—perhaps referring to the fact that Cynthia Nixon is still on And Just Like That… despite making pro-ceasefire comments of her own.

But perhaps the key to this reading is that noticeable use of the past-tense in the way Ramirez ended their post: “It’s wild how performative so many in Hollywood are. Even more performative than the last character I played.” (Not “play,” but “played.”) Of course, that could also just mean that they knew this was the plan for the show and that the character really had reached a natural conclusion.

Either way, Sara Ramirez and Che Diaz will not be returning to the show.
