At least one other woman has now accused Crystal Castles' Ethan Kath of sexual assault
Earlier this year, former Crystal Castles member Alice Glass revealed the real reason she left the influential Canadian electropunk band in 2014: An alleged pattern of abusive and manipulative behavior exhibited against her by bandmate Ethan Kath, one that included multiple instances of sexual assault. Now, more women appear to have added their own stories to Glass’ allegations, with The Daily Beast reporting that the Toronto Police Department has opened a sex crime investigation into Kath’s behavior. The department didn’t confirm that more women have come forward yet, but, according to The Daily Beast, the site is in contact with at least one woman who says Kath—who’s now 34—instigated a sexual relationship with her when she was only 16.
That lines up pretty well with Glass’ allegation against her former bandmate; she’s said in the past that they met when he was already an established minor star in the Toronto musical scene, and that he frequently plied her with drugs and alcohol before having sex, while always staying sober himself. She also noted several instances where he allegedly exhibited physical violence against her, and several times when their sexual relationship “wasn’t always consensual.”
Kath is currently suing Glass over her comments, citing lost revenue for the band, which canceled its current tour in the wake of the allegations against him. According to Pitchfork, Kath has also denied this latest round of accusations, as well.
