BBC America sends Dirk Gently into that good night

According to Variety, BBC America has decided to cancel Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, making the weirdo detective show’s recent season finale into a series finale. In a statement, BBC America said that it is “beyond proud” of the “brilliant original series,” and offered a word of thanks to stars Samuel Barnett and Elijah Wood as well as series creator Max Landis. Based on the Dirk Gently books by Douglas Adams, the TV series was sort of a sci-fi/fantasy show about the eponymous Dirk Gently, an eccentric detective who “holistically” solves mysteries by following the invisible connections between things.

The loss of both Dirk Gently and Orphan Black has now left BBC America’s collection of original offerings a little light, but at least it can still count on that other sci-fi/fantasy show about a weirdo who kind of solves mysteries.
