Bill O'Reilly says the Las Vegas shooting is "the price of freedom"
Not to be outdone by Alex Jones, who said today that the recent mass shooting in Las Vegas was “scripted” by Democrats, similarly annoying idiot Bill O’Reilly also has a terrible take that he felt the need to share with everybody. As reported by Variety, O’Reilly posted a blog post today in which he argues that dozens of people getting murdered by someone with a gun is “the price of freedom.” It’s an insane claim, since it seems to be more in favor of Wild West-style anarchy than it is the freedom and democracy that people in the United States believe in, and it makes it sound like O’Reilly is either in favor of people getting murdered by guns or—at the very least—that he’s coldly indifferent to it.
“This is the price of freedom,” O’Reilly says. “Violent nuts are allowed to roam free until they do damage, no matter how threatening they are.” It’s a frighteningly grim worldview, and it gets even darker when combined with the fact that O’Reilly also believes there’s no point in ever trying to do anything about guns because it’s impossible to get both sides of the gun debate to agree on anything. Essentially, O’Reilly is suggesting that scores of Americans getting murdered is the right and proper way for us to live, as if everyone should constantly fear for their lives because that’s somehow better than preventing a single person—no matter who they are—from having access to as many guns as they want.
It’s probably not surprising to learn that Bill O’Reilly doesn’t care about other people, but it might be surprising to learn that he literally doesn’t care about anything. As far as he cares, it’s just a matter of time before we all have to die in the name of the Second Amendment, and there’s no point in doing a single damn thing about it.
