Bill Paxton's family sues Cedars-Sinai hospital for wrongful death

It’s been almost exactly one year since the February 2017 death of actor Bill Paxton, who died of a stroke that was attributed to complications from a recent heart surgery. Now, his family is suing Cedars-Sinai hospital for wrongful death, alleging that the procedure in question was “unconventional,” and that doctors failed to adequately explain its potential risks.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Paxton’s wife and children filed a complaint against the hospital last week, claiming that the surgery in question was “beyond the scope” of the doctors performing it, and that at least one surgeon left the operating theater before the procedure was finished, causing further damage to go untreated for critical minutes after complications occurred. Citing confidentiality regulations, Cedars-Sinai has yet to specifically comment on the Paxton family’s case against it, only stating that “We thoroughly review concerns about any patient’s medical care.”
