Brie Larson dons her first flight suit for Captain Marvel

It’s been nearly two years since Brie Larson was cast as Carol Danvers in the Captain Marvel movie, but production is finally underway in Atlanta. We know, Marvel Studios had a couple of climactic battles to stage first, along with the end of a fictional world. But, despite being the 21st installment in the MCU, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s film is Marvel’s first woman-led film, so it’s easy to see why anticipation is high.

Thankfully, we’ve gotten some breadcrumbs about the plot and characters. Jude Law is playing Carol’s mentor, Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell a.k.a. Captain Marvel, while Ben Mendelsohn is playing—who else? —the villain, Yon-Rogg. The movie, which is being written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, is set in the ’90s and will feature the Skrulls, despite their prominent placement in Fantastic Four storylines, and Fox’s licensing of that particular comic property’s rights. And now we have our first look at Larson in character.

It’s maybe not as flashy as the superhero’s star-emblazoned suit, or even the hoodie that Larson sported while reading the comics, but it is a nod to Carol’s flying ace background. That of course led to her NASA career, which led to—well, we’ll see when Captain Marvel hits theaters in March 2019.
