The recently announced lawsuit between Sean “Puffy” Combs and recording artist Cassie has now been settled, Variety reports; the suit, filed on Thursday, accused Combs of sexually assaulting his former lover, while also describing a long pattern of alleged abusive behaviors on his part.

Both sides released statements on Friday night, with Cassie (whose real name is Cassandra Ventura) stating that, “I have decided to resolve this matter amicably on terms that I have some level of control. I want to thank my family, fans and lawyers for their unwavering support.” Combs, meanwhile, put out a statement through his lawyers asserting that “We have decided to resolve this matter amicably. I wish Cassie and her family all the best. Love.”

All of which is a lot more polite than the back-and-forth back on Thursday, when Combs’ lawyers accused Ventura of essentially running a multi-million dollar shakedown on him (calling her suit against Combs “baseless and outrageous lies”), as her suit alleged decades of abuse stretching back to when Ventura, then a young recording artist, met Combs when she was just 19. Said allegations included physical abuse, threats, and at least one strong insinuation that Combs blew up rapper Kid Cudi’s car, because he and Ventura were seeing each other.

As Variety notes, Ventura’s lawsuit was filed just a week before the expiration of New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which extended the statute of limitations on crimes related to sexual assault. At the time of filing the suit, Ventura issued a statement saying that, “With the expiration of New York’s Adult Survivors Act fast approaching, it became clear that this was an opportunity to speak up about the trauma I have experienced and that I will be recovering from for the rest of my life.”
